REVIEW: ANTHONY QUE - Recharge & Reload (Charm)

It was just recently that Anthony Que caught my attention after hearing the Disciples produced track "Rise Up". "Recharge & Reload" is his second album release and on it he has teamed up UK producer Tony "Ruff Cutt" Phillips who produced Macka B's latest release "Word Sound Power" and who also gave us such crucial tracks as "Jah Jah Live On" with Junior Kelly and "Give Jah The Glory" with Freddie McGregor.

Hailing from Kingston, Jamaica, Anthony Que began his musical career when joining a local gospel group called the Missionary Band at a young age. It didn't go long before he made his recording debut for Sugar Minott's Youth Promotion with "Early Morning". Before relocating to London, England, around the millennium he was shortly linked to Beres Hammond's Harmony House label as well. Now living in the UK and after several outputs comes this album manifesting him as a serious talent on the uprise.

The album takes you through upfull roots vibes to heartfelt lovers. His resemblance to Beres Hammond comes very close on this one though I still think he got his own kind of twist on things. Just listen to the Al Green cover "Simply Beautiful" (one of my all time favorites all genres) which he does with such brilliance that one could easily mistake it for recut by the man, Al Green, himself. Other good tracks includes "Stand Firm", about holding your ground although criticism from other people, "Live Good" which got that old time groove to it and the struggler theme "Rising Up". The lovers fans will surely be more than satisfied as well with "Waiting For You" which rides a recut of the popular Drop Leaf rhythm and "You've Got A Man" where he takes the role of the lonely lover.

The production is slick and at times gets me thinking of Bobby Digital outputs from the late ninties. Among the major key roots rhythms and slow wining lovers tracks you'll also find the casual cross over tune as well. This is music for the dancehalls where the good vibes are reigning and where normal struggling people can find relief from their everyday troubles within the music as they rock away the night long .
