REVIEW: DUB TERROR feat. TENA STELIN - No More Stress (Deep Root)
Dub Terror comes back hard with his second seven inch release on the Deep Root label entitled "No More Stress". Dub Terror is a London based Italien producer who's seriously on the uprise. His last output "Child Soldiers" with Tena Stelin on vocals sold out rather fast when it first was available in Novemeber last year (2005). Dub Terror got a crisp and very clear sound to his productions and takes the best from the old and the new as his productions blends the digital and live element of instrumentation and sound with a perfect feel. Just like last time he has teamed up with UK roots singer Tena Stelin again. Tena Stelin has been active on the scene since the late eigthies and has worked with nearly every top roots producer in the UK. The two of them make a serious combination on this fresh little vinyl piece from the Deep Root label.
"No More Stress" is a thumping stepper with a pounding bassline and warrior style drums. There's a extorted sound following the tones of the bass which increases the weight of the tune when it kicks in halfway into it. Tena Stelin's vocals touches the want of a stress free life without global wars and world pollutions. The simple chorus is very sing a long friendly and will surely be sung in many dances to come. Other than the founding drum and bass rhythm there's a melodica in the forefront playing the chords and a melody which at times very much reminds me of the James Bond theme. You'll also find piano, tambourine and a rippling bongo in the mix as well. This is the kind of tune that sounds good the first time but grows on you even more for every time you hear it. Tena Stelin's crying vocals fits Dub Terror's rhythm so well that I sincerly hope the collaboration between the two doesn't stop here.

The flipside contains a dub version entitled "Plan B" which suprisingly begins with Horace Andy declaring Dub Terror as the talk of town before heading into the chorus of his classic "Spying Glass". The vocals of Tena Stelin and Horace Andy takes turns and fades out from time to time as the rock solid rhythm carries on with the melodica surfacing every now and then playing a melody or striking a chord. After hearing "Plan B" I immediately began to wonder if a whole Horace Andy cut was due as well. I later found out that there is a Horace Andy cut but the licence for that one has not yet been cleared. Hopefully Deep Root will come to an agreement with Horace Andy so we can witness yet another solid version on this inspiring rhythm. Time will tell.
