REVIEW: JAH MELODIE - Love Fire Burning (Bush And Shadow Records)

The new release of Dutch label Bush And Shadow Records has just landed in the shops and from what Im hearing it's another scorcher even better and more powerful than their first output "Jah Army". Again the singer of choice is the talented Jah Melodie (aka Bagga-T) who now have teamed up with fellow country man Slimmah Sound on production.

Jah Melodie is a upcoming singer from Netherlands who's most known for his recent works together with brethren Iyah One of the Shiloh Ites. As for Slimmah Sound I remember first hearing him on the Dubflash LP "Dubshoe Episode 1" with a tune that really didn't impress me too much but after hearing more of his works recently, like the Deep Root release "Judgement Come", I can surely say that this man can build some serious rhythms. Let alone this new 7:inch release will be good proof of that.

The rhythm that Slimmah's provided for Jah Melodie is in my opinion one of the best one drop rhythms I've heard this year. The sound is dynamic, criss as can be and fits Jah Melodie's vocal like a glove. The melody is simple yet so effective with its floating organ licks and once the constantly rising bassline kicks in one can only surrender. But the main ingredient to this rhythm is the wonderful background harmonies of Jah Melodie. Once again I have to send big respect unto Jah Melodie for his heartfelt vocal delievery and deep lyric content. Rastaman vibes all the way. Just listen to the soundclip below and you'll feel it.

Slimmah's version comes in heavy dubwise manner and serves the sound system circuit good with a clear choice of dub. This is the kind tune that doesn't feel long enough which leaves you constantly playing it over and over again. It will interesting to hear future works from both Jah Melodie and Slimmah Sound having in mind that the output of releases from both of them has just begun. Same goes for Bush And Shadow Records who's good taste for outputs has yet again been proven well.
