Yes good people. Three new reviews up containing Abassi All Stars "Edutainment EP", Spanish reggae compilation "Reggaespañol Consciente Vol 1" and a review of probably the first Swedish sound system dance featuring two full sound systems. Just check in the Media section under Reviews for them.
Jakob just come home from a weekend in London where he linked up with the talented and very good hearted woman Christine Miller for an interview which will soon feature on the site. Unfortunatly interviews with Danny Vibes, I Natural and Wayne McArthur had to be cancelled due to the fact that time isn't always on our side. Respect still for the opportunity. Also big respect and thanks to Dougie Conscious for all the promos and dubs handed our way.
Check further down for info regarding new releases, the dub documentary Dub Stories and more. Yet first some words of wisdom.
Words Of Wisdom:

Upcoming & New Releases:
Loads of new stuff coming these days. The following is just the tip of the iceberg. Go seek further and you'll find x-amounts of tunes coming from all over.
Asaiah Records out of Holland got a 10:inch coming soon featuring two fresh tunes from King Shiloh singer Lyrical Benjie. Production by Dubcreator. A crucial combination having in mind that their earlier works contain the classic "Ten Plagues". Tunes on the vinyl will be the stepper "Jah Meekness" and the one drop "Who's Gonna Help?".
Dubcreator also got another 10:inch on the way featuring his productions with vocal contribution from Lyrical Benjie, in "Sign Of The Conquering Lion", and Kenny Knots, in "Babylon City". Should be out late summer on Lion Roots Music.
Swedish dub producer Finn The Giant have plans for a full length album by the end of this year. There's also a 7:inch in progress featuring Swedish singers Lancy Rankin and Elijah. This one shall hopefully be available by august. For those unfamilair with Finn The Giant I recommend you check the net releases on his website which you'll reach HERE
After a endless output of releases its been quit from Barry Isaac for a while. Though not long ago a 7:inch appeared featuring the self produced "Warmongers" on his Reggae On Top label. Good tune going straight to the warmongers head.
Dutch based producer Ryan Moore of Twilight Circus another fresh 10:inch out featuring foundation singer Fred Locks and veteran deejay Ranking Joe on the version. Tunes entitled "Wisdom" and "Don't Be Ungreatful". B-side holds two dub versions for the dub heads. Right now available on M Records.
Lovedub Music label who's been releasing dubplate material from the Conscious Sounds early period has their best release out at the moment. It's non other than the mega wicked King General dubplate "Health, Strength & Power". Best tune I ever heard by King General. B-side holds another previously unreleased tune with East Meets West's "Militant Style". Early Conscious Sounds vibes. Buy without hesitation.
The Dubateers seems to have enough material in their vaults. Out now is their second 10:inch in a short time featuring Singer Blue on vocals on two steppers rhythms. THe first being "Broken Arrow" and the second "Jah Jah Riddim". Both with dubs. Mixed and voiced in Conscious Sounds Studio. Out now on Dubateers Records.
UK deejay Dubdadda has teamed up with female singer Judy Green on Deep Root's latest 7:inch release. Dubdadda is the man behind the production and Judy Green is in charge of the singing on "So Much Confusion". A good tune not to be missed. I hope to hear more from Judy Green since good female vocalists aren't exactly over represented in reggae music.
The French Education label, which previously have been releasing reissues of old JA tunes, has two new releases out. First a 7:inch with Ranking Joe's "Me No Love Wa Gwan" and second a 10:inch with Ras Daniel Ras and Ken Boothe delivers a tune each, "Princess" and "Show Me That Love". Both releases features rhythms provided by the Tu Shung Peng band out of France. Quality reggae music for sure. Mixed at Conscious Sounds.
Producer Junior Dan who's most famous for his early works which was reissued last year on the Honest Jons label and as bass player on several Augustus Pablo tracks, have just released new material on his Hi Try label. "Sligoville Tobacco" is a instrumental roots tune while "Are We Really Free" features spoken words by Squire Jon on a different rhythm. Mixed by Russ D at Disciples Studio. Out now on 10:inch vinyl.
More dubplate material is emerging since Gussie P is finally releasing the wicked "Jah Jah Judge" by Rick Wayne which rides the same rhythm as Anthony Bryan's "Son Of The Almighty". Serious roots music. Released on 10:inch vinyl with a instrumental dub, "Cedar Of Lebanon Dub", on the flip. Backing by Mafia & Fluxy as it always is when Gussie P's producing. Out now on Sip A Cup.
Sip A Cup also released a good Michael Prophet 10:inch not so long ago which passed by quite unnoticed but nevertheless it's good modern roots signed Gussie P all over it, "Pressure We Feel". Flipside got stepper pressure with "Dub For Joana".
The Manila Jeepney label who gave us the "Guide Us" rhythm got a new 7:inch coming featuring Tony Roots with "Good People" which is a mellow kind of tune with upfull vibes. Produced by Russ D and Tony Roots at Discples Studio London England. Soon out of Manila Jeepney.
It's been a while but now Lionpaw from Cultural Warriors has a new release in progress featuring Kenny Knots with "Seek Jah The Creator" on the Step It Up rhythm which most definently know from the Barry Brown anthem with same name. Coming with one melodica version and two dubwise versions. Also soon coming on the Cultural Warriors Music label is another release by dub maker Artikal. Tunes entitled "Access" and "First Tao". I currently don't know which formate these will come in, but hold tight samples soon available on Upfront.ch. Soon come on Cultural Warriors Music.
The horsnmen of Love Grocer got a brand new album out on Universal Egg called "Across The Valley" featuring vocals by Earl 16 and S.Gramham and a bunch of wicked hornfueled dub. Not to overlook!
French Irie Ites label got a new 7:inch out with Spectacular in combination with Turbulence on "High Grade". The rhythm used is a re-cut of Burning Spear's Studio One classic "Rocking Time". B-side got Spectacular riding the same rhythm solo. Mafia & Fluxy production with Gussie P on the mix. Listen to both tunes mixed together on a promosample reached HERE
Also coming soon on Irie Ites is the dread "Borderline" rhythm, also by Mafia & Fluxy. Cuts by Malijah, Chezidek, Luciano, Lorenzo, Ras Mac Bean feat. Anthony B and more soon come on 7:inches. Two cuts already released on Ras Mac Bean's album "Pack Up And Leave" also on Irie Ites Records. A big rhythm to look out for!
Dub and breakbeat producers System Error got a 12:inch coming featuring cuts with Brother Culture, Earl 16 and Michael Rose. See more HERE. Dubwise in a different stylee.
Judi K, who produced the beautiful "Rasta Pickney" rhythm last year, has a new production on the way called "Souljah". The rhythm will appear on the Jah Love label featuring cuts by Lutan Fyah, Lyricson, Ras Mac Bean, Lorenzo, Louie Culture, Malijah and Olben feat Spectacular. A slow and solid roots rhythm. 100 Jah Shaka Dubplates:
Fitting to Jah Shaka's "return", with his new sound system on the 28:th of May at the Coronet (London UK), my friend Kalcidis has put up this list, of 100 killer dubplates played by Jah Shaka, on his minimal yet useful site. Mind that the list is from 1989 and originally appeared in the Boomshackalacka Magazine number 4. Respect to Lol and BSL crew. Check list HERE

New & Upcoming Releases:
Good news just reached me the other day in form of a email from Tena Stelin where he told me of a new 10:inch release soon to drop. A-side contains "ID Chip" which is a relick of Wailing Souls anthemic "Kingdom Rise Kingdom Fall". B-side contains "Intelligent Design" which rides one of Tena's own original Dub Corner rhythms. Comes with dub counterparts as well. Soon to drop on Dub Corner label.
Idren Natural's work together with French dub producer Munky Lee is finally out. The 10:inch features "Farover", which rides the classic "Kunte Kinte" rhythm, and "A Letter From LIDJ". Comes with dubs. Released on the Black Wheat Sounds label. Well dread!
Irie Ites Records, who lately gained success with their "Zion" rhythm, got a fresh 7:inch out with Spectacular and Turbulence in combination on a modern relick of Burning Spears "Rocking Time" entitled "High Grade". The flipside contains same rhythm with Spectacular running solo on "Chant". Rhythm is built by Mafia & Fluxy and mixed by mixmaster Gussie P. Out now on Irie Ites Records.
Scotlands Mungos HIFI is back again with another release on their Scotch Bonnet label. This time with four 7:inches all riding their "Songs Of Zion" rhythm. Vocalists are Ras Charmer, Murray Man, Prince Livijah and Marga. Ras Charmers "Songs Of Zion" is a real stand out among these. Wicked tune! More info and soundclips HERE
Russ Disciples and Backyard Movements who's dropped some serious 45's in the last 6 months has yet another release ready to be pressed. This time it's a rougher than rough recut of the classic "Drum Song" rhythm featuring UK vocalists Christine Miller with wicked "Run To The Rock" and Anthony Que (originally from JA but now residing in the UK) with "Take Me Away". Make sure to pick this up quick since these will be gone in a flash! Release is set for late June on two seperate 7:inches. Listen to Russ D dropping these live in the dance HERE
Russ Disciples also announces that there's more dubwise Disciples music coming your way although he's currently concentrating on the large amount of vocal pieces he's been working on the past year. "but me nah forget the dubwise bredren, just testing some tune out now, fairly raw and completely new, so just seeing how the feedback for `em is !" to use his own words.
UK label Seek Jah First got two box fresh 10:inches out. One featuring Kenny Knots with "Give I Power" which rides a relick of the classic "Money Money" rhythm. Comes with two dubs and a melodica cut. Second got Singer Blue on vocals and features "The Hills" over another relick which is no other then Desi Roots "Weed fields" rhythm. Again with dubs. Well heavy tunes! A vocal/dub album from Ghetto Priest is also in progress on the Seek Jah First label. More info and news on these later on.
Another Singer Blue release is due as well on the new Dubateers label out of Southend UK. Dubateers is also the name of the production crew behind it. The tune is named "Get Up" and is a furious stepper where Singer Blue urges all to get up and sing Rasta song. "Get Up" alongside the dub tune "The Royal Dub" by The Dubateers will soon be available on a 10:inch. Both tunes comes with dub. Mixed and arranged at Conscious Sounds studio. Loads of releases to come from this new label so watch out.
General D & Deep Roots Music from France has teamed up with Bush Chemist Dougie Wardrop on their latest release which will feature on the Diop Side label. The rhythm provided by Bush Chemist is entitled "Rain & Thunder" and features a digital style with a early ninties feel. Four 7:inches are due with excellent vocal contribution from Nerious Jospeph, King Kong, Kenny Knots, Horace Martin, Lyricson, General D and Little Dany. Soon to drop. Press HERE for soundclips and further info. Serious rhythm full of vibes!
UK roots label Roots Garden, who recently release the powerful "Black Starliner" by Johnny Osbourne, should have their second 7:inch out right about now. Just like the J.Osbourne piece this one is also produced by Nick Manasseh but features vocals from deejay Brother Culture this time around. Brother Culture shows a different side of himself as he sings instead of delivering fast chat deejaying. You can catch a promoclip of this beautiful roots entitled "Darker Side Of Town" HERE
Manasseh and Brother Culture also have an album in progress on the French Hammar Bass label. From what I've heard this is going to be a versatile album representing four years of work between the two. Album will be entitled "Brother Culture Meets Manasseh" and hopefully it won't be too long before its release.
The Zulu Warrior Jah Shaka has loads of new releases soon to be released. From what I've understood it's going to be individual vocal albums coming with Johnny Clarke, Tony Tuff, Winston Jarret, Strang Jah (Stranger) Cole and Roger Robin. Plus dub albums to follow. Hopefully some of these works will include those crucial tunes Jah Shaka's been running as dubplates over the years. More info and news on these later on. All due for release on Jah Shaka label.
New material from Roots Hitek is soon to appear. Two new 10:inches are planned on the Roots Hitek Music label. One will feature Prince Malachi with "Gideon Trod" and "Trodition" and the second will feature rising female star Christine Miller with "The Light" and "Trod Away Home". More info and soundclips HERE
About a year or so ago the Rootspirit label released a 10:inch featuring Murry Man over a steppers rhythm very similar to those coming from Jamaica in the mid ninties. Jumpy and upfull. That same rhythm can be found on their new 7:inch release "Me Home" with Ras Alan on vocals. So if you liked that first one this one might do it for you as well.
Makasound has just launched their underlabel Makafresh which will be dedicated to release current Jamaican artists and music. First out is a full album by sweet singing Doniki who used to run with Steady Ranks (check their album "Give Thanks & Praises") as a duo years ago. Personally this is the kind of thing I've been waiting for, a somewhat underated and under recorded artist like Doniki getting the chance and funds to make a whole album by working with Jamaicans top musicans. Massive respect to the Makafresh crew for this one! You can find more info on this release HERE
St. Croix roots outfit Bambu Station will have a new album out in June named "Break The Soil". The album features new St. Croix empress, Reema, on the their hit single "Chance To Grow". Somehing to sooth the souls of all St. Croix massive until Bambu Station's guitarist and vocalist Tuff Lion drops his much awaited solo album. Soon come on Mt Nebo Records.
Revive & Reissue Releases:
French Education label comes back with yet another 12:inch revive release after recent collector gems like Leroy Brown's "Colour Barrier" and Mighty Threes "Rasta Business". Winston McAnuff's classic "What A Man Sow" and "Unchained" are in spotlight this time. The first comes with dub version and the second in extended version with Trinity on DJ chat. Get educated!
German revive label Basic Replay has yet again dug into their mid 80:s collection of English reggae. This time they've reissued a King Culture prodution of the infamous "Cuss Cuss" rhythm. It got a raw and very rootsy sound with its dubby engineering and cheap keyboard sounds. Good cuts by Rod Taylor ("Lonely Girl"), Barry Brown ("Nice Up The Session") and deejay Stamina Ranks ("Taurus Special").
Revival label Cooking Vinyl got another cooking dub piece out on the market with Skin Flesh & Bones meet The Revolutionaries "Fighting Dub 1975-79". This is late seventies dub produced by Lloyd Campbell. On it you'll find some nice dub counterparts to The Itals classics "In A Dis Ya Time" ("Slavery Dub") and "Time Will Tell" ("Scotch Dub") among others.
The Cultural Roots classic "Mr Boss Man" has seen light on a 7:inch once again with Penthouse's newly done repress. Comes with version on the flip. Penthouse repressed Cultural Roots "Devil Ites" not too long ago as well and hopefully this repress won't include the hizz that the previous did. Time will tell.

The 10:inch vinyl will contain two new tunes by Lyrical Benjie, "Jah Meekness" and "Who's Gonna Help?", along with dubcounterparts by Dubcreator. Soon available from Asaiah Records.

M Records which released the solid Michael Rose "African People" release last year got three new 10:inches coming up. First one got foundation singer Cornell Campbell with "Why Dem Gwaan So" and it's deejay version "Universal Ruler" with old time deejay Jah Stitch. Both tunes rides a seriously uplifting rockers. Both tunes have also featured on the excellent "Twilight Circus Presents Deeper Roots" compilation. Check for that one if you're more into CD. If I got it right the other two 10:inches features the same slow grooving rhythm. Old timer Fredlocks ("Won't Give Up The Fight") and new comer Queen Ifrica ("Stand Up For Righteousness") features on one while top ranking deejay Lutan Fyah ("We Can Make It Work") and long timer Michael Rose ("A Little Bit More") is featured on the other. Revival & Repress Releases:

On one we got Dave Robinson with one tune on each side follow by its dub piece, "Jah Know" and "My Homeland". On the second we got Neville Tate with "Lightning Clap" and "See A Man's Face". Same set up there as well. What makes the Ja Man label a stand out when coming to represses is their good and crisp sound which so many labels who represses their old material seem to careless about.
It has just been announced that Eek A Mouse will license his early back catalogue before his breakthrough over Roots Radics rhythms. "Wicked Shall Not Reign", "Creation" and "My Fathers Land" are the tunes to feature Ripton Hilton aka Eek A Mouse as well as the Barry Brown killer "Mouth A Talk". Four 45s to look forward to. Current top tunes most likely to hear at a Guidelight Movement session:
1. Christine Miller - Blood Shed (12:inch)
- Intense steppers featuring the beautiful voice of Christine Miller. The great harmonies and horns pushes the good vibe even higher. Best Russ D production of the year!
2. King General - Health, Strength & Power (dubplate)
- Great tune with long hypnotizing intro. King General alonside Centry at their best. Why this tune haven't been released is to me a mystery, since it's the best one I ever heard by the General.
3. Joseph Hill & Culture - Police Man (7:inch)
- Typical Taxi style rhythm by the rhythm twins Sly & Robbie. Sounds like a mid eighties tune although it's newly voiced and released. Strong release from the Mr Tipsy label. One of the most essential JA outputs at the moment.
BSL present The Original Classic Dubplates:
Russ Disciples explains the concept of the "dubplate". Interesting reading and well heavy soundclips of some classic dubplate tracks. The site has been up for years so this one is for everyone who haven't found their way to it yet.

Rod Taylor sings "Out of Rome" over the same rhythm as Robbie Valentine's "Did You Sleep Good" of his "Jah is My Defender" album. The veterans Twinkle Brothers got a new fresh 12:inch out with the tunes "The Almighty Power" and "Babylon is Falling Down" on the flip. Twinkle Brothers are sounding as good as they always done. Jah Youth Sound System singer Ras Echo have a wicked tune just out on the Silver Fox label entitled "Long Time". Production is done by Silver Fox who seemed to come from nowhere with this quite simple yet ever so effective rhythm. Looking forward to hear more from both Ras Echo and Silver Fox.
King General, who haven't record new material for nearly 10 years, seems to got something of a revival right now. First came a reissue of "Money Run Things" (with Culture Freeman's "The Fittest" on the B-side). Second "Hot Stepper" (with Jonah Dan's "Bongo Man" on the B-side) which just reached the stores. Plus in January we'll see the reissue of "They Say" and "Long Long Time". Both on the same 10:inch from the Luv Dub label. Mind that all these (except "Money Run Things") are the dubplate mixes!.
Sip A Cup label got two new 10:inch vinyls out with Tena Stelin "These Are The Days" and Winston McAnuff "Bless Up". Both vocals on the same rhythm. B-side to "These Are The Days" got a dub cut to Anthony Brian's "Son of The Almighty" while the B-side to "Bless Up" got a steppers with Bongo Herman providing binghi vibes with his drumming.
Not to forget Jah Warrior's new one drop rhythm which only seem to have got good feedback overall. Rhythm is named "Creation" after the Anthony John cut by the same name. Other cuts by Ranking Joe and Lutan Fyah. Lutan Fyah's herb tune "Smoke The High Grade" is especially doing well in the dances. Jah Warrior production on Jah Warrior label with Russ D on the mix.
Last but not least, the Addis label out of Switzerland got a brand new rhythm just out a week ago. After the release of their wicked "The Heat" rhythm earlier this year comes yet another quality roots rhythm named "Solid Ground". It's a mellow one drop which surely will make an impact on release. Personal favorites are Luciano's "Overdue" and Fantan Mojah's "Change". Other cuts include Natural Black, Perfect and the lovely voice of Jennifer Barret on vocals. A solid release for sure!
New Revival Releases:
Jamaican producer Manzie "Ja-Man" Swaby, who's now located in NYC, has just now pressed up a fresh bunch of 7:inches from his back catalogue. All original mixes from back in the days of the seventies when they first were released. Clean sound and good press! The ones releases are: Jr Byles & Rupert Reid with "Chant Down Babylon", Blazing Fire with "Blood Dunza", Hortense Ellis with "Super Star" and Rod Taylor with "Love Jah Always". All to be found on the Ja-Man Records label.
More crucial 7:inch releases comes from the Pressure Sounds label with the obscure "Close The Gate Dread" and "South Africa" by the The (Mighty) Travellers. The Travellers were a vocal trio similar to the style of Earh & Stone and the early works of Black Uhuru. Both releases comes with dubwise cuts on the flipside. Get before gone! If these tunes catches your attention you might also check The Travellers album "Black Black Minds" also on Pressure Sounds. Just released as well. Produced by King Jammy including dubs and deejays versions to many cuts. Read more about these releases HERE
The old time classic of Fredlocks entitled "Love and Harmony" has been repressed once more for our listening plessure. First released in 1975 on the much sought after Jahmikmusic label. Produced by H. Boothe. A heartical Rastaman chant of love and harmony. This 12:inch vinyl comes with Fredlocks vocal and Brigadier Jerry deejays version plus two dub version on the flipdside. The Kingston Connection who's revealed this classic got many more releases out as well as coming ones. Ones that's still to emerge from the pressing plant are Abdulkareem, more Fredlocks, more Creation Steppers, more cuts on the Big Sax label and some wonderful cuts of the hornsman David Madden as well.
The French Makasound label have unleashed probably the best reissue of the year with the obscure Leroy Brown album "Color Barrier". This is deep deep roots music at its best. Comes as good sounding double vinyl for the vinylists. Once again Makasound have dug out a beautiful sounding album from the deep crates of Jamaican music. A limited edition promo 12:inch has also been released featuring the title track and "Gone Gone" on the flipside. Both tracks with deejay versions following.
Teachings/Some words to reflect on before entering the new year of 2006:
If I speak in the tongues of men and angels,
but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a tinkling symbol.
And if I have prophecy and know all mysteries and all knowledge,
and if I have all faith so as to remove mountains,
but have not love, I am nothing.
(Corinthians 13:1-2)
