A upful and most progressive new year to one and all. With great faith in good over evil and the simple but serious act of doing right and just we as one people can make our small but very important contribution to make the coming future a better place to live in. Small steps worthy of thought for a greater goal.

First off this year we have an interview with upcomer Dandelion, who we managed to link up with when he was in Uppsala Sweden last Novemeber for a session. We're having some problem locating a minidisc of an interview we did last year with Jamaican singer Iqulah but hopefully it will see the light of day in a time soon to come. 28/4 - DUBCLASH #2 (Tesfa Sound System meets Jah Massive Sound System):
After the succes of Dubclash #1 (Tesfa meets Meditative Sounds) we are now proud to announce the second edition of Dubclash which is hold on saturday the 28:th of April at Dieselverkstaden in Stockholm Sweden. The idea and main reason behind Dubclash is to promote and build up the Swedish roots and dub sound system scene and doing so by letting two seperate sound systems play side by side building up the vibes for the ultimate sound system experience.

With us this time around we have Jah Massive Sound System from Uppsala Sweden. Jah Massive Sound System is has been active for about a year now and distinguish themselfs by playing in a typical "warrior" style. Hard and monotonous. Jah Zebi who recently gain international attention with his works together with Alpha & Omega, Shiloh Ites and Dub Tribulation will feature on the mic together with them.

Last but not least we have Tesfa Sound System who's the resident sound and also the people behind the Dubclash events. Tesfa Sound System is a roots and dub sound system from Stockholm Sweden who started organizing and running dances in the fall of 2006 as they finished building their system. Since Dubclash #1 they have kept an low profile upgrading their sound system and expanding their dub box.

This is the second time Tesfa and Jah Massive are playing together, first was in Uppsala winter 2006, so don't expect any of them holding back playing the finest of roots & culture and dub music, old to new, seasoned with dubplate material. Rough cuts roots and deeper dub. A true experience for all roots men and women who dont fret harmonic melodies and deep basslines in a driving tempo. Come one come all!

Zion Gate HIFI out of southern France got a new rhythm in the pipeline. After "Prions Jah" and "From Afar" comes a all live instrumental rhythm named "I Love Jah" after the Don Carlos tune it's based on. Kingston Connexion got new material from the vaults of David Madden's production catalogue. Zap Pow's "Last War" will soon be availble on vinyl again. If you been into recent dancehall you most definently will recognize this tune. You can check dub cuts "Jah Haawn" HERE. Further on we will see the release of a good roots tune by Rob I Peart named "Scorpion" plus DJ cut and dubplate horn cut to already release "Nowhere" (read review of it HERE).

Also look out for Cultural Warriors Music in the near period. Heard a couple of tunes which is set to blow big in roots dances.

New release in the pipeline from upcoming Swedish production team Dub Tribulation featuring singer Jah Zebi (of High Valley Band) on vocals. Dark and heavy steppers on 12:inch vinyl. Tune's entitled "Herbal Meditation" and "Pure & Clean". 3 cuts on each side. Both tunes have been runned heavily on Swedens dub sound systems. Out in a few weeks on Dub Tribulation label. On the 27:th of January the first DUBCLASH took place in Stockholm Sweden between Tesfa Sound System and Meditative Sounds (which you might know from their Errol Bellot/Lion release last year). Venue was Dieselverkstaden and session was ram and bubbling from the start. Lots of dubplates and rarites went down as the crowd kept balling out for more. On friday the 15:th of December Tesfa Sound System will be holding their second dance at Dieselverkstaden Bar & Matsal in Sickla (just 5 minutes away by bus/train from Slussen). The sound will be up and running from 21 to 03, providing serious upliftment through the musical powers of roots and dub music. It's not too often nowadays that we see the release of albums from the roots and dub stables here in Europe. Knowing that many chose not to release albums since it doesn't pay off we have to salute the few that manages to get one or two out every now and then. So therefor I've chosen to highlight a few albums which have just seen release or is due to in time to come. Here goes.

Singer Blue - Do Jah Works (The Dubateers CD): In the recent year Singer Blue has been as productive as ever, mainly due to The Dubateers crew and Dougie "Conscious" Wardrop working extensively with him. On this release, which will see release in early Decemeber, The Dubateers have gathered a total of 20 tracks (incl dubs!) on a long player which I believe will be classic UK roots material in years to come. Recorded and mixed at Conscious Sounds studio. Extra salute for including dub versions! More info HERE

Teddy Dan - King Highway (Teddy Dan Music CD): Teddy Dan made himself a name about ten years ago with the LP "United States Of Africa" but since then it's been rather quite from him here in Europe. In Africa on the other hand he's been touring and currently he's risiding in Ethiopia. On this album, which was made during a 3 months stay in England this year, he's teamed up with Makating and Ockard Ridim. The final result is a unique and vivid album containing strong tunes like "Be Strong", which rides Makating's "Mr Greedy", and "Jah Day" which also seen release on 7:inch on the Ockard Ridim label. Ghetto Priest - Beyond Flesh (Seek Jah First LP): The versatile and experimental Ghetto Priest has finally got to make that great roots album we've been hoping for. "Beyond Flesh" holds some of the best works I've heard from Ghetto Priest. So don't sleep on this one if you might not have been so keen on his earlier works. Productionwise it's mostly remakes of old sound system anthems updated in a 2000 style, like "Kunte Kinte" (on "Struggle") among others, sounding fresh and crisp. Vinyl release only!

Abassi Allstars - Showcase (Universal Egg CD/LP): This one is for all those of you who've missed out on Abassi's many rough releases on Deep Root hitting the market for the last two years. Perch of Zion Train is in charge of production while vocal contribution comes from a range of singers like Earl 16, Dubdadda, Luciano, Rasheda etc. Extra bonus is the 3 unreleased tracks also added to the playlist. Michael Rose - Warrior (M Records CD): Follow up to the last years stand out album from Jamaican singer Michael Rose, African Roots. Vocals and rhythms are top notch and all to all it sounds very much Black Uhuru in its glory days, at times even better. Produced by Ryan Moore of Twilight Circus which equals groovy roots reggae music. All killers no fillers on this one. More info HERE and soundclips available HERE

VA - Twilight Sound System presents Rasta International (M Records CD): Great compilation CD featuring Jamaica's old veterans and young upcoming talents doing wonders over serious rhythms provided by Twilight Circus, analog style. It's hard to pick out just one or two highlights but these surely do it, "We Can Make It Work" with Lutan Fyah and "Rastafari Is Calling" with Mikey General. On saturday the 25:th a event called Roots Gathering will take place in Uppsala Sweden. For the event two sound systems have come together to play side by side in a unity style. In one corner we got Uppsala dub rockers Jah Massive Sound System, alongside singer Jah Zebi from High Valley Band, and in the other we got the newly founded Tesfa Sound System from Stockholm supplying musical upliftment to one and all. Both crews will be bringing their own sound system to the venue making this event one you don't want to miss since there's not many of these events happening in Sweden. One of the best dub albums to emerge out of the UK this year featuring deep basslines, wonderful rhythms and great vocal contributions from the Nucleus Roots crew. Read review HERE

Earthquake - Mighty King David Sounds (Earthquake):
Until brimstone and thunder will roll on judgement day Earthquake does his part by releasing "Mighty King David Sounds". Dark, heavy and nothing for the weakhearted.

More to come in the near future. Lots of time has currently been spent on building the Tesfa Sound System which is part Guidelight Movement affilated. Roots Connection:
On the 20:th of August the internet radio show Roots Connection started running again after a shorter stop during summer. Roots Connection is featured on www.vibes46.com, Sweden's first internet radio dedicated to urban music. The show is hosted by Meditatve Sounds one week and Tesfa Sound System the next. Selection will be roots and dub music including everthing from fresh out of the box tunes to old dusty vinyl plus the odd exclusive or dubplate. The common agenda is Roots Music hence the name Roots Connection. Currently the show is in Swedish but if there's a public demand we're happy to go more internatioal. So feel free to tune in every sunday between 6-8 PM. To listen live or archive shows click on the "Lyssna Nu Klicka" button to your left. We've just come back from this years edition of the Uppsala Reggae Festival where we got the chance to get a very fast interview with Jah Mali, as for Congo Ashanti Roy of The Congos talking more about spiritual matters than music and one with Neville of The Seers (formerly Dan Hutson & The Seers) reasoning on Rastafari teachings. Large up to Florent from France, Finn The Giant and all the other people we bumped into at the festival. A full review of the festival and upcoming releases are on the way.
